Magazine Genre Research

VANITY FAIR

They have a woman positioned as the main focus of the cover in a very exotic and eye catching dress. The contrast of the color of the dress with the color of her skin really proves to catch the eye of a passerby. They also matched the background of the photo close to the color of the dress which gives the entire cover of the magazine a very bright and eccentric color scheme. The fact that it is an almost neon green proves to stand out from the normal whites, blacks, browns, and other relatively neutral colors. Throughout the magazine, they have various adds that pertain to clothes, shoes, accessories, makeup, and hair-care products that relate to fashion. Instead of just focusing on the clothing aspect of fashion, they also push their advertisements regarding makeup, perfume, etc. to give the overall view of bettering one’s physical self with material things. They have continuous photos of people dressed in eccentric outfits for major fashion companies such as Prada, Michael Kors, and more. They then switch to advertisements for different perfumes and makeup products which show people wearing said products, and small paragraphed captions explaining why someone should buy them. They show articles varying from focusing on one specific fashion style that is out right now, or on an extremely famous jeweler explaining her success and how she got to where she is now.
